Laphroaig 34 Years Old The Ian Hunter Story Book 4 Malt Master
Sometimes referred to as the most richly flavoured of all Scotch whiskies, Laphroaig is one of the most iconic island distilleries. With its smoky and iodine flavours, Laphroaig embodies the Islay identity.
Although the exact etymology isn’t known, Laphroaig is said to mean “broad hollow by the bay” in Gaelic. This references its location, a small basin on Islay’s southern coast. However, it officially operated under the business name of D. Johnston & Co throughout most of its history after Donald and Alexander Johnston, who in 1815 founded their distillery on the island’s south coast.
This 34 Year Old Single Malt is the fourth release in Laphroaig’s series of rare and collectable aged whiskies, a tribute to Ian Hunter’s love for being boldly different, named ‘Malt Master’. Laphroaig honours Ian Hunter’s memory with a whisky every bit as rare and distinctive as he, a release with real character born of the signature Laphroaig peat. This 34 Year Old Single Malt was carefully crafted from Laphroaig’s own floor-malted barley and aged in the American White Oak casks (Hunter was first to procure) and Oloroso Sherry casks.
Nose: Rich, with the classic Laphroaig smoke sitting beneath.
Taste: Pineapple and peach notes.
Finish: A long, ashy finish.
